During her time there, she also took part of See to Succeed, a program that is partnered between the Houston Department of Health and Human Services and the University of Houston, San Jacinto College, Kids Vision for Life, and the Berkley Eye Center to provide free vision exams and eyewear to children and youth in need. She also trained at Coastal Eye Associates with some of the premier doctors in refractive surgery and surgical post-op management. While at Coastal, she gained valuable clinical training in cataract & LASIK surgery co-management and corneal, retinal and glaucoma conditions. Dr. Tovias is a lifelong learner and offers her patients the best eye care by taking periodic continuing education classes, attending conferences, and staying up to date on the latest diagnostic equipment and treatments for diseases of the eye. Part of her interests are treating dry eye, pediatric eye care, geriatric eye care, and diagnosis of diseases like Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetic Retinopathy. She has a special interest in helping patients see better with the best quality lens products and eyewear, preventing eye diseases through supplementation/nutrition and educating patients about eye diseases and discussing ways to improve vision and health with the help of glasses and contacts. A new area she is expanding into is moving into the aesthetic portion of Optometry where both improvement in dry eye and improvement in skin conditions can be combined. “Being an Optometrist in a small-town community is the best place to be! It’s always interesting here because I can see on a typical day anything from a 6 year old patient getting his first pair of glasses to a 85 year old patient needing to have a referral for cataract surgery. I am the primary care doctor of the eyes, so I see everything of the eyes. My patients always keep me on my toes, from emergency eye care to the typical vision exam for new glasses and contacts.” Dr. Tovias enjoys being part of the Santa Fe community. She made Santa Fe her permanent residence in 2021 and feels that has been one of the best decisions in her life as she loves the community and the patients she serves and couldn’t see herself anywhere else. She now calls Santa Fe her permanent home alongside her husband ,Ozmel, and her two kids, Sebastian and Samuel. In her spare time, Dr. Tovias enjoys family activities, traveling, and cooking. She is a foodie and loves to go and try out new foods all the time. Dr. Tovias is enthusiastic about being able to serve the visual needs of the community of Santa Fe and its surroundings for many years to come.

Susana Gonzalez was born in El Salvador and raised in Houston Texas. She is one our newest opticians at Texas State Optical of Santa Fe, but she has been with the TSO Family since 2016. Part of the roles she has in our office are assisting the optical manager and frame styling patients under her role as optician to give them the best options to achieve clear vision and comfort. She is well trained in all aspects of the office and is always willing to help in other roles when needed. Susana loves to travel abroad, her favorite country thus far being Puerto Rico. She also enjoys spending quality time with her family. Susana is a quality addition to our Texas State Optical of Santa Fe family.

Joana started with Texas State Optical of Santa Fe in June 2022 as an ophthalmic technician and is now part of our front desk taking on the role as receptionist. This is Joana’s first professional job out of high school. She has enjoyed the opportunity to learn new skills and grow within the company. She looks forward to being here with us for the foreseeable future. She loves helping our patients have a 5-star experience and makes sure to help them in any way possible. She was born and raised in Galveston. She enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her family.

Jessenia was born in Galveston, Texas to parents of Salvadoran descent. She has been with Texas State Optical of Santa Fe since 2017. She began as an ophthalmic technician and is now in her primary role as an ophthalmic laboratory technician and optician. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and loved ones, attending church, taking scenic photography, and playing video games. Jessenia enjoys frame styling and helping patients choose the right glasses for their lifestyle and needs. “Seeing the result eyewear can provide for our patients when they are able to see when we do a dispense is the cherry on top to my role in that patient’s journey to better vision.”

Alejandra is the newest addition to the Texas State Optical of Santa Fe team. Her favorite thing about working for Texas State Optical are being able to work with a team that is hard working and that make her feel like she’s with family. She attributes this to her being able to learn so much in these last couple of months.  She finds it very rewarding to know that each patient leaves with a better understanding of the health of their eyes. “I’m happy to be a part of this team! A little bit about myself outside of work is that I enjoy creativity and nature. If I’m not at TSO you can catch me drawing or walking my dogs in nature!”

Georgia joined the Texas State Optical family in 2005. She is a seasoned optician who has worked for 18-plus years in the optical world and several TSO locations. She is knowledgeable in multiple positions within the office. She wears many hats from an optician, front desk, and business office, to dispensing and repairing glasses. She is willing to help wherever she is needed. Part of her tasks include ordering inventory and selection frames for our office which she enjoys dearly as she loves style and fashion. She moved from the Pacific Northwest although born in Lubbock, Texas. She now lives in Santa Fe, Texas where she moved to be near her three sisters and children. She has four children who live in different cities in Texas. She loves being a grandmother and spending time with her family. Georgia loves to help patients choose glasses that compliment them well and fit their lifestyle, as well as help them see better. She loves to educate her patients on the importance of the health of their eyes and how glasses can help them achieve not only a unique style but also improve their quality of life by helping them see better.

Breanne has been with Texas State Optical of Santa Fe since August 2019. She started as an ophthalmic technician with no prior experience in the field and has trained in multiple roles to assist with patient care; the latest being optician. She is crossed trained in the office to help where needed but her main roles are optician and receptionist. She was born in Galveston and raised here locally in Santa Fe. She enjoys being able to help her community. “I enjoy getting to know all patients and helping the doctor give them the best care possible.” In her spare time, Breanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her five year old son. She also likes to visit new places and try new restaurants.  She is very grateful for the opportunity that she has to grow with Texas State Optical of Santa Fe.
